Friends of the Earth call on EIB not to finance pipeline between Chad and Cameroon

Brussels, 20/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - The NGO "Friends of the Earth" called on the EIB not to sign a loan of EUR 160 million foreseen for a pipeline between Chad and Cameroon. In a letter to the President of the EIB, Philippe Maystadt, the "EEC Bankwatch" network of Friends of the Earth asserts that there are three reasons for which the EIB should not support the project: a) the political instability in the region and human rights violations, b) corruption and misuse of funds, c) the...
