Commission proposes, for next year, significant cuts in catches for nearly all species and up to 74% for Hake

Brussels, 05/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - As EUROPE had announced (bulletin of 2 December, page 13), the European Commission adopted its TAC proposal (total admissible catches) and national quotas for the next fishing season. Faced with the collapse of stocks, it favours reductions in the fishing effort that will affect all the Community fleets in 2001.
