19/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - Community of European Railways (CER) Chairman Louis Gallois summarised in ten points the claims made by rail companies in order to reestablish fair competition between different modes of transport: norms comparable in social, environmental and security matters ("rail is twenty times safer than road"), as well as infrastructure tariffs, VAT harmonisation and the tax on fuels, and the creation of a tax on carbon dioxide (CO2), etc.
