Hauliers call for a reduction of taxes on fuel, whereas railways and environmentalists are against it

Brussels, 11/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - Whereas European finance ministers announced in Versailles over the weekend that they did not intend cutting tax on oil products (see other articles, pp. 7/8), lobbies are taking contradictory stances over the subject, some calling for a cut in taxes, others concerned at the consequences of such a measure on the environment.
