Brussels, 06/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved the operation whereby Clayton Dubilier & Rice (CD&R), an American private investment firm with a wide spread of activities of the portfolio companies, will take over control of Italtel SpA, Telecom Italia supplier of public telecommunications equipment and systems. No company of the CD&R portfolio companies is active in any of the three business areas of Italtel. One of these, Dynatech Corporation, nonetheless holds a relatively sound position on the market for measuring and testing equipment used in the telecommunications field, an activity directly upstream from those of Italtel. There are, however, strong competitors in the field such as US companies Agilent Technologies and Textronic, and Japanese Anritsu. The Commission has therefore decided not to oppose the operation and to declare it compatible with the common market and the EEA agreement.
