Brussels, 06/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised the German company BASF AG to acquire a stake in Dystar Textilfarben GmbH & Co. Deutschland KG, specialised in textile dyestuff. In the context of this move, BASF will integrate its world activities in textile dyestuffs in Dystar for which it acquires joint control with the German companies Bayer AG and Hoechst AG. The company will have an annual turnover of around DM 2.2 billion and will employ 4,700.
Growing competitive pressure from East Asian dyestuff producers as well as the presence of European groups firmly established in this sector -Yorkshire UK, Ciba (CH) and Clariant (CH) - have convinced the European Commission that this operation would neither create nor strengthen a dominant position.
