Brussels, 06/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Egyptian Minister for the Economy and Commerce, Mr. Boutros Ghali is to meet the Commissioners for external relations, Chris Patten and Trade, Pascal Lamy on Thursday to obtain "clarifications" on the EU/Egypt Association Agreement. Negotiations have been over since June 1999, but Egypt continues to delay its approval, due to reservations on - it appears - both the agricultural chapter (access to the European market) and the industrial chapter (opening up of the Egyptian market). Last July, President Mubarak announced that the difficulties had been overcome, but then nothing moved. Community circles hope that the talks with Minister Boutros Ghali will be decisive.
