For lack of a majority in the Ecopoint Committee on the reduction of traffic in Austria, the Transport Council will have to take a decision

Brussels, 31/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece and Belgium opposed, at Wednesday's meeting of the Ecopoint Committee, the European Commission's proposal for a reduction of heavy goods vehicle traffic in Austria by 2003, within the framework of the Ecopoint system. The proposal for a regulation will consequently be referred to the Transport Council on 27 June, which will have to state its view by qualified majority.
