Rumours about Commission giving up some of its present activities are "unfounded speculation", and no decision has been taken or contemplated - Indications on current exercise

Brussels, 25/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - The spokesman's service of the European Commission defined as "unfounded speculation" information published by the British press whereby the Commission intends to give up some of its current activities. No decision has been taken or envisaged. What is currently taking place within Commission services is an exercise at the level of directors-general, which responds to general aims and objectives.
