WTO panel condemns US legislation exempting from royalty payments music played in bars, cafes, shopping malls, etc.

Brussels/Geneva, 25/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - In an interim decision released last week, a World Trade Organisation (WTO) panel confirmed the illegal nature of US copyright legislation that had been challenged by the European Union. The European Commission is refusing for the time being to comment on the decision, which is expected to be made definitive and published at the start of next month, possibly with some adjustments to take Washington's observations into account.
