Madrid, 04/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The leaders of the centre parties of the EU and of several applicant countries opened, on 4 February in Madrid, a meeting which should result, on 5 February, in the adoption of a common strategy document, "Europe 2010". The meeting, to take place under the heading "The Future Lies in the Centre", was opened by speeches from the presidents of the European Parliament, Mrs Fontaine, and of the European People's Party, Mr Martens.
