Greens plead in favour of strengthened European legislation over shipping safety following sinking of Erika

Brussels, 07/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The leader of the Green Group in the European Parliament, Paul Lannoye, announced that his group would talk to the Portuguese Presidency in Strasbourg on 18 January about shipping safety. Paul Lannoye remarked that the sinking of the oil tanker Erika off the French coast had shown that the European Union had finally to adopt shipping legislation that was "genuinely" effective".
