The European Commission has launched a call for evidence to help shape a strategy on the use of artificial intelligence in the cultural and creative sectors.
This call is aimed at citizens and the creative industries. The objective of this strategy, which is part of the ‘Cultural Compass’ roadmap launched by the Commission in November 2025 (see EUROPE 13750/6), will be to “benefit the European cultural sector” and to promote “the development and use of AI to defend authentic creation”.
Originally open from 27 July to 11 September 2026, the call for evidence was removed from the website at the end of the day on 27 July because of a “technical problem concerning the link”, a Commission source explained. The call was put back online on 29 July, judging by the first contributions visible on the site.
At this stage, the Commission has not been able to provide further details on the reasons for this incident, on a possible two-day extension of the call for evidence, or on the handling of any contributions submitted on 27 July before the link was removed.
