European Commission approves €290 million in Dutch State aid aiming to support sustainable aviation fuels

31/07/2026 (Agence Europe)On Friday 31 July, the European Commission approved, in accordance with EU State aid rules, two Dutch schemes that have a combined budget of €290 million so as to support sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) at different stages of their development. According to the European Commission, the schemes will contribute to achieving the objectives of the ‘Clean Industrial Deal’ and the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation. One of the schemes provides investment aid for SAF production, and the other covers the costs of the preparatory work for SAF projects, including the initial technical design studies. The schemes will support projects whose estimated production is approximately 285 kilotonnes of SAF per year - that being equivalent to 350 million litres of kerosene, which represents around 3,500 intercontinental flights. The schemes will cover the period running from 2027 until 2031 at the latest. (CG)
