Poland - EPPO submits second request to lift parliamentary immunity in corruption inquiry

31/07/2026 (Agence Europe)According to a statement issued by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) on Thursday 30 July, European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruța Kövesi submitted a second request to the Polish Parliament on Wednesday 29 for a waiver of immunity of a serving member of parliament in order to initiate proceedings against him and obtain authorisation for his pre-trial detention. This new request follows the emergence of additional suspicions of influence peddling and accepting financial benefits in an inquiry linked to the EU-financed modernisation of tram infrastructure in the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie metropolis. Searches carried out on 21 July led to the arrest of two people suspected of having offered financial benefits to the parliamentarian. A court ordered their pre-trial detention for three months.
