11/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 9 June, seven members of an international ISIS financing network of the so-called Islamic State were sentenced in Belgium to prison terms ranging from five to 15 years, Europol announced in a statement. This follows a counter-terrorism operation led by the Belgian authorities with the agency’s support, to dismantle a “sophisticated”, “deeply radicalised” criminal infrastructure, which was made up mainly of “individuals of Chechen origin residing in Europe”. The organisation provided substantial financial support to members of so-called Islamic State in Syria and Central Asia, notably for the acquisition of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive weapons (CBRN-E precursors). It was also working to secure the release of foreign terrorist fighters held in the region. (JM)
