The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has adopted a common template for the notification of personal data breaches to help organisations and data protection authorities structure, harmonise and unify their data breach notification procedures. The aim is to facilitate overall compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) while strengthening the consistency of practices across Europe.
This template, which offers pre-defined options as well as guidance on how to complete the various fields, will reduce time and costs, particularly for small organisations that do not have a Data Protection Officer (DPO) or dedicated legal resources, the EDPB said in a press release on Wednesday 10 June.
Stakeholders will have the opportunity to submit their comments on this template as part of the public consultation open from 10 June to 5 August. The EDPB will then decide on the timetable for the practical implementation of the template by all data protection authorities. (Original version in French by Ana Pisonero Hernández)
