22/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission launched, on Friday 22 May, a call for evidence on the revision of the European Directives on Tobacco Products (2014/40/EU) and Tobacco Advertising (2003/33/EC), thus complementing the public consultation opened recently (see EUROPE 13869/13). Stakeholders are invited to give their views until mid-August on several plans by the EU institution: - introducing new requirements for tobacco products and related regulated products; - extending the scope of the legislation to new products (nicotine pouches, heated herbal products, electronic inhalers not containing nicotine) and make the legislation more flexible to take account of market developments; - strengthening rules on labelling and packaging, including plain packaging; - strengthening current rules on digital marketing and advertising; - simplifying certain provisions of the directives to reduce resource intensity.
