Deaf’, 2026 LUX Audience Award

14/04/2026 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 14 April, the film ‘Deaf’, by Spanish director Eva Libertad, won the 2026 LUX Audience Award, following a public vote and a vote by MEPs, each given equal weighting. The film tells the story of Ángela, a young deaf woman who is expecting a child with her hearing partner, Héctor, and whose fears about motherhood surface as she confronts the reality of raising a baby in a world not built for her. This film was in competition with ‘Christy’, by Irish director Brendan Canty, ‘It Was Just An Accident’, by Iranian director Jafar Panahi, ‘Love Me Tender’, by French director Anna Cazenave Cambet, and ‘Sentimental Value’, by Norwegian director Joachim Trier. ‘Deaf’ follows the animated film ‘Flow, directed by Latvian Gints Zilbalodis (see EUROPE 13631/26)(CG)
