14/04/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 April, the co-legislators of the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament presented their positions at the first trilogue on the Turnberry Agreement (see EUROPE 13689/1). As part of this commitment made in the summer of 2025, the EU plans to reduce or eliminate tariffs on a certain number of US products, in exchange for a 15% tax cap on European exports to the United States (see EUROPE 13697/4). The European Parliament, which gave the green light on 26 March, has a number of reservations about the text (see EUROPE 13837/4). For its part, the Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council hopes to achieve a positive and balanced outcome as soon as possible, bringing greater stability and predictability to transatlantic relations. Six technical meetings are planned between now and the next trilogue, scheduled for 6 May. (JV)
