Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights warns of Poland’s suspension of asylum procedures

In a letter to the Polish Minister of the Interior, Marcin Kierwiński, dated 1 April and published on Tuesday 14 April, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O’Flaherty, expressed his concern about the application by the Polish authorities of 2025 legislation providing for the temporary suspension of access to asylum at the border between Poland and Belarus in all cases where border guards consider that a person has crossed the border unlawfully.
