14/04/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 14 April, the European Commission approved a Czech aid scheme worth €3.7 billion to support the construction of biomethane production stations for transport, heating and industry, as part of the ‘Clean Industrial Deal’. The system is based on a price support mechanism via two-way contracts for difference, signed for 15 years on the basis of a “strike price”. When gas market prices fall below this level, the State compensates biomethane producers. Conversely, the latter pay back the surplus if prices are higher. Beneficiaries will be selected by competitive tender. This measure should help the country make the transition to a low-carbon economy. (IS)
