Despite persistent reservations, European Parliament approves trade agreement with United States

After several months of stalled negotiations in the European Parliament, MEPs gave the green light on Thursday 16 March to the so-called ‘Turnberry’ agreement between the EU and the United States.

The commitment made in the summer of 2025 introduced the elimination or reduction of customs tariffs on a series of US products, in exchange for a 15% tax cap on European exports to the United States (see EUROPE B13697A4).
