Directive on wastewater treatment – European Parliament debate on striking balance between environmental protection and access to medicines

At its plenary session in Brussels on Wednesday 25 March, European Parliament debated the EU directive on wastewater treatment, a text which has sparked divergent views among the political groups, particularly on aspects relating to medicines (see EUROPE B13765A16).

On 1 January 2025, the new Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive came into force.
