30/04/25 (Agence Europe) – The animated film “Flow”, directed by Latvian Gints Zilbalodis, won the 2025 LUX Audience Award, presented on Tuesday 29 April at a ceremony in the European Parliament, following a public vote and a vote by MEPs, each given equal weighting. This Latvian, French and Belgian co-production tells the story of a cat confronted with a world turned upside down by a flood. It addresses issues such as climate change, migration and resilience, which Parliament described in a press release as “central in the European Parliament’s work”. The other four finalists were “Animal”, by Sofia Exarchou of Greece, “Dahomey”, by Mati Diop of France, “Intercepted”, by Oksana Karpovych of Ukraine, and “Julie keeps quiet”, by Leonardo van Dijl of Belgium. The European Parliament has supported the LUX Audience Award since 2007, in collaboration with the European Film Academy, the European Commission and the Europa Cinemas network. (NP)
