30/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 30 April, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service expressed the European Union’s deep concern at the executions of five people in Kuwait on Monday 28 April for premeditated murder, following those carried out in January 2025 and September 2024. “The EU reiterates its firm opposition to the death penalty in all circumstances. It is an inhumane punishment that has been shown to be ineffective in deterring crime and constitutes a denial of the fundamental right to life and human dignity”, explained the spokesperson in a press release. He stated that the EU would continue to work towards abolishing the death penalty in the few countries that still apply it. (CG)
