European Commission launches three calls for proposals to support independent and pan-European information

On Wednesday 30 April, the European Commission launched several calls for proposals to support pan-European journalism and the fight against disinformation.

A first call with a budget of €13.5 million aims to increase the quantity, quality and impact of journalism on European affairs in as many languages as possible. The €13.5 million budget is divided into three priorities. These include developing media services in countries where pluralism and diversity of information are particularly lacking. The Commission mentions the case of Hungary in particular.

Applications are open until 13 June, with a view to starting projects in October.

A further €5 million in funding to support the fight against disinformation is divided into two calls for proposals. The first aims to support the detection of information manipulation campaigns.

The second must increase the reach of content produced by independent fact-checking organisations. In both cases, applicants have until 16 June to submit their proposal.
