EU Member States clarify their position on revision of World Anti-Doping Code

30/04/25 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 30 April, ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper I) approved a draft supplement to the position of the EU and its Member States as part of the revision of the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code, the reference text that harmonises the anti-doping policies, rules and regulations of sports organisations. As part of the third phase of consultation currently being conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), this text invites the agency to take into account the recommendations published at the beginning of April by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) (https://aeur.eu/f/gmh ). According to the EDPB, it is vital to combine the objectives of the fight against doping with respect for athletes’ fundamental rights, particularly regarding privacy and the protection of personal data. The draft complements the common position of December 2024 and stresses the importance of integrating these guarantees into the future version of the code. (NP)
