On Tuesday 17 March, European environment ministers adopted EU Council conclusions advocating the development of a competitive and sustainable bioeconomy by 2040, by encouraging the use of bio-based and circular solutions in all sectors.
The bioeconomy is based on the use of renewable biological resources - such as plants, animals and micro-organisms - to produce food, energy and industrial goods (see EUROPE B13806A16).
