17/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 16 March, Japan and the European Union reaffirmed their diplomatic cooperation on the occasion of the sixth meeting of the joint committee for their Strategic Partnership Agreement, which was held in Tokyo against a backdrop of intensifying global conflicts. The delegations—headed by Kitagawa Katsuro, director general of the European Affairs Bureau at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Erik Kurzweil, managing director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service—reviewed the implementation of the partnership, which had come into effect in January 2025. Discussions notably focused on security and defence issues, the Green Alliance, sustainable connectivity, and the space sector. (JM)
