Brussels, 16/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 13 March, Member States’ ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper) granted the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union a new negotiating mandate concerning air passenger rights. Contrary to what Agence Europe wrote in its bulletin dated the same day (see EUROPE 13828/4), it was not a spokesman but a spokeswoman who spoke on behalf of the Presidency. “The Presidency has received a broadly supported mandate to continue negotiations on the regulation on air passenger rights. This long-standing issue is a key priority, and the Presidency will press ahead with the work with total commitment, with the aim of putting in place a simple, applicable and balanced framework that strengthens passenger rights while supporting the Union’s air connectivity and competitiveness”, she stated.
