EFSA notes a decline in detection of cases of avian influenza after an unprecedented peak in Europe

Detections of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) are beginning to decline in Europe, following a particularly marked peak in the autumn and winter.

According to the latest joint quarterly report from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the EU Reference Laboratory, published on Thursday 12 March, circulation of the virus in waterfowl has reached a level not seen for five years.
