Fifth EU-assisted evacuation flight has landed in Romania, with over 11,000 citizens already repatriated from Middle East

Brussels, 16/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – A fifth evacuation flight chartered by the European Commission through the ‘rescEU’ mechanism landed in Bucharest on Sunday 15 March, bringing to more than 11,000 the number of European citizens repatriated from the Middle East. This flight, which departed from Oman, enabled the safe return of 134 people, including 96 Romanian nationals and 38 citizens of other Member States, who were initially stranded in the United Arab Emirates.
