Targeted review of CBAM mechanism affecting economies of outermost regions advocated by France

On Tuesday 10 March, as part of an “any other business” item on the agenda of the Ecofin Council, France will be alerting countries of the European Union to the additional costs involved in implementing the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in the outermost regions.

The French authorities would like to make the rules of the European mechanism more flexible so that Member States can, under certain conditions, exempt their outermost regions from the application of the CBAM...
