09/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 March, the Council of the European Union confirmed the appointment of Andrés Ritter as the European Chief Prosecutor to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) (see EUROPE 13765/9), who is due to take office on 1 November. He will succeed Laura Codruța Kövesi, whose seven-year term of office expires on 30 October 2026. Andrés Ritter joined the German prosecution service in 1995 and headed various prosecution offices before becoming Deputy European Chief Prosecutor in 2020. As head of the EPPO, he will be responsible for organising the institution’s work and representing it in contacts with the European institutions, Member States and international partners. The appointment still has to be confirmed by the European Parliament. (NP)
