Brussels, 06/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 6 March, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) announced the appointment of French diplomat Mariam Diallo as Senior Deputy Secretary General. She speaks French, English, Arabic, Hebrew and Spanish, and since 2023 has been Head of Cabinet to UfM Secretary General, Nasser Kamel, where she steered a major institutional reform and contributed to the organisation’s new ‘strategic vision’, adopted in November 2025. Under the new governance structure, the six Deputy Secretaries General - four of whom are women - have a “strengthened role in leading political dialogue, advancing strategic priorities and supporting the implementation of ministerial mandates ensuring that political commitments are translated into coordinated action and measurable impact across the region”, the UfM said in its press release.
