Brussels, 06/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, have invited Middle East leaders to attend a video conference on Monday 9 March, in view of the rapidly evolving security situation in the region, a spokesperson for the President of the European Council announced, on Friday 6 March. According to her, “this exchange will provide an opportunity to hear leaders’ assessments of the situation and to discuss further support from the EU and its Member States to countries in the region, as well as ways to bring the current conflict to an end”. The EU High Representative will attend the meeting, unlike the leaders of the 27 EU Member States. On Thursday 5 March, European foreign affairs ministers held talks with their counterparts from the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (see EUROPE 13822/1). (CG)
