18/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – In reaction to the proposals made by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at the informal summit in Alden Biesen on 12 February (see EUROPE 13807/2), the SolarPowerEurope association urged European leaders on Tuesday 17 February not to touch the foundations of the European electricity market. According to Deputy Director General Dries Acke, decision-makers already have the tools to act on high electricity prices, mentioning the existence of long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and contracts for difference (CfDs). “Member States that fully implement the recently adopted electricity market legislation will immediately attract cost-effective flexibility solutions”, he stresses. He added: “Reopening the electricity market frameworks now or intervening in market fundamentals will slow down investment in solar and storage and, ultimately, produce the opposite effect”. (PLD)
