European leaders to examine a new design for European electricity market and ‘ETS’

At the end of the informal meeting of European leaders at Alden Biesen Castle in Flemish Limburg on Thursday 12 February, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that options for a possible revision of the ‘merit-order’ system governing the European electricity market would be presented at the next summit in March. She will also present proposals for reforming the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).
