On Tuesday 17 February, the EU delegation to Morocco pledged that 2026 would cement the shared ambition of the EU and Morocco to strengthen and broaden their partnership in priority areas.
“On the strength of the progress made at the last Association Council [on 29 January, editor’s note (see EUROPE 13798/9)], the European Union intends to pursue and deepen this partnership, particularly through the New Pact for the Mediterranean and the Global Gateway initiative, in order to support structural projects offering concrete opportunities for citizens”, stated the EU Ambassador to Morocco, Dimiter Tzantchev, in a press release.
Funding has amounted to around €310 million, including €233.42 million in budget support for major national reforms. According to the delegation, this funding supports Morocco’s key priorities, ranging from human development and the green transition to territorial cohesion and economic growth.
For its part, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed loans worth €740 million with Morocco in 2025, “the highest level recorded since 2012”, according to the EIB’s representative in the country, Adrien de Bassompierre. These funds “illustrate our commitment to resilience, the energy transition, water security and the post-earthquake reconstruction of essential infrastructure”, he added.
