Romania, Hungary and Poland call for exceptional aid for pig industry

On Monday 23 February, Romania, supported by Hungary and Poland, will ask the European Commission to mobilise exceptional aid for the pig industry. 

According to a Romanian note (https://aeur.eu/f/ks8) ahead of Monday’s ‘Agriculture’ Council meeting, EU pig carcass prices have been declining steadily since October 2025. In December 2025, the price of S carcasses in the EU decreased by almost 20% year-on-year, while the price of E carcasses decreased by almost 17%.
