29/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent to European leaders on Thursday 29 January, 125 civil society organisations are calling for a gradual phase-out of US fossil fuels, following the actions and threats of US President Donald Trump in relation to Venezuela and Greenland. These organisations are calling to cancel both negotiations and the implementation of the EU-US trade agreement of July 2025, as well as to reduce dependence on US LNG (liquefied natural gas) in solidarity with populations threatened by "Trump's fossil-fuelled imperialism". In particular, the signatories call on EU Member States to “appropriately” terminate existing and prevent new long-term contracts for the import or financing of US LNG.
