19/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – The names of the two rapporteurs for the Committees on the Internal Market and Consumer Affairs (IMCO) and Civil Liberties (LIBE) responsible for the ‘artificial intelligence’ part of the ‘omnibus’ simplification legislation on digital technology (see EUROPE 13755/3) are known. They are Michael MacNamara (Renew Europe, Irish), for the LIBE Committee, and Arba Kokalari (EPP, Swedish), for the IMCO Committee. Michael McNamara is Co-Chair of the Working Group on the Implementation and Enforcement of the AI Act. As for Arba Kokalari, she was shadow rapporteur on the DSA and is a member of the same working group on AI. In a post on LinkedIn, the Swede said that she will work hard to tackle the obstacles that stand in the way of the development and use of AI, namely “unnecessary bureaucracy and contradictory rules”. The names of the rapporteurs for the GDPR/data part of the ‘omnibus’ are not yet known. (IS)
