19/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – The spokesman for the European External Action Service, Anouar El Anouni, announced on Monday 19 January that the EU had been invited to take part in the Peace Council as part of the peace plan for Gaza. “The United States has invited us to join the Peace Council. We appreciate this invitation and share the objective of achieving peace (...). We are ready to discuss with the United States and other partners how we can jointly achieve this objective,” he explained, although he did not wish to say whether or not the EU would accept the invitation. “The Peace Council is taking shape and the inclusion of all the key stakeholders will be essential,” stressed the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, on X. She also welcomed the creation of the ‘Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza’ and the participation of Palestinians in the governance structure. (CG)
