22/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 22 December, following a written procedure, Member States validated the implementing decision of the Council of the European Union establishing a solidarity pool for the year 2026 under the ‘Pact on Migration and Asylum’. The Member States have put forward a number of quantified commitments in an attempt to meet the promise to relocate at least 21,000 people or to give €420 million in aid to countries under pressure from migration by the second half of 2026, according to the European ministers’ decision of 8 December (see EUROPE 13772/15). Germany and France have promised to relocate 4,555 and 3,361 people respectively from countries said to be ‘under pressure from migration’, Romania 661 and Luxembourg 15. Italy has advanced financial aid of €54 million, Spain €42 million and the Netherlands €21.9 million. Portugal has announced €8.4 million in financial aid, according to the latest figures available. Hungary and Slovakia have not made any commitments. (SP)
