09/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič, was in India on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 December for a negotiation session with his counterpart, Piyush Goyal, on the future EU/India trade agreement. The two parties have agreed to intensify their efforts to reach an agreement in the near future. The aim remains to reach a conclusion ahead of the EU-India Summit to be held in January. However, negotiations are struggling to make headway on contentious issues such as trade in agricultural products, access to the Indian market for European cars, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and access to the European market for Indian steel.
