09/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 9 December, the European Commission announced the mobilisation of €2.4 million in funding to support the most vulnerable populations in areas recently affected by flooding in Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand. Up to €1.8 million will be spent on relief operations in Sri Lanka, including €500,000 channelled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ emergency fund. The Commission has also allocated €300,000 to Indonesia and €300,000 to Thailand to support its humanitarian partners on the ground. At the same time, several EU Member States (Germany, France, Italy) have mobilised material aid and technical expertise through the ‘Civil Protection Mechanism’. In addition, the EU’s Copernicus service has been activated to provide crisis maps. (BD)
