18/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – According to the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), 149 million trees disappeared worldwide between 2021 and 2023 as a result of European consumption of soya, palm oil, cocoa, coffee, industrial roundwood, beef and beef by-products, and rubber. The aim of the regulation to combat imported deforestation, which came into force in the summer of 2023, is precisely to ban imports into the EU of products derived from deforestation. But having already been postponed for a year last year, its entry into force could well be postponed again, following a proposed revision by the European Commission (see EUROPE 13735/4). The postponement sought by the latter would only concern small and micro-businesses, but the co-legislators are moving towards a postponement for all operators (see EUROPE 13750/25).
