In a working document on the revision of the Digital Services Act (DSA) that was presented during the EU Council working party’s meeting and that Agence Europe was able to procure, the European Commission states that it has decided to examine more than forty other texts whose legislative objectives intersect with those of the DSA.
Article 91 of the DSA specifies that the European Commission must have completed, by 17 November at the latest, its evaluation of the regulation’s application, including “the way that this Regulation interacts with other legal acts”.
A document dated Tuesday, 23 September, the presentation lists more than 45 legislative texts that are consequently “under assessment” and whose revision is “aligned” with the “digital simplification” package (see EUROPE 13676/16), expected in November.
Among the texts mentioned are the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Regulation on the transparency and targeting of political advertising, the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), the Data Governance Act, the e-Privacy Directive, the NIS2 Directive on cybersecurity, the Toy Safety Directive, and even the revision of the Union Customs Code.
According to the document, the majority of these texts present “space for simplification/efficiency gains and reduction of compliance costs”.
While the 45 pieces of legislation listed are not guaranteed to be included in the upcoming digital simplification package being prepared by the European Commission, some of them, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), are actually expected to undergo targeted changes (see EUROPE 13714/24).
