25/09/25 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 24 September, the Belgian city of Leuven was named a European Capital of Culture 2030. Its theme, ‘LOV2030 – human nature’, aims to showcase Europe’s diversity, creativity, and values, as European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef reiterated on the social network X. The city also aspires to address issues such as climate change and inequality, which will reportedly help promote culture and strengthen the economy, tourism, and local well-being, according to a press release published on its website. Leuven was chosen over Molenbeek and Namur, which had also been shortlisted in October 2024 (see EUROPE 13512/18). Alongside Belgium, the ‘European Capitals’ programme for 2030 will also shine a spotlight on Cyprus—with the winning city yet to be selected. (NP)
